Giorgia Meloni believes that any peace talks have been made possible by Western support for Kiev.

Italy’s prime minister, who vows to continue supporting Ukraine, and Volodymyr Zelensky say it is “Russian propaganda” that Kiev is losing the war.

– It is a decision that will not change … The only thing that must not happen is to believe that the conflict can be resolved by abandoning Ukraine, she states.

The Nordic Times has previously highlighted how Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni admitted last year that many European leaders are tired of the war in Ukraine and how it never seems to end.

– I see that there is a lot of fatigue, I have to say the truth, from all sides. We are close to the moment when everyone understands that we need a way out, Meloni said, speaking to two Russian comedians and pranksters posing as representatives of the African Union.

Other leaders of her “Brothers of Italy” party have also come to the conclusion that Western sanctions have failed and it is time to go to the negotiating table and end the war.

Ukraine losing “Russian propaganda”

However, during a meeting with President Zelensky this week, Meloni chose to give his full support to Ukraine, declaring that Italy will never back down from this stance. According to the Italian Prime Minister, this is not only a moral choice – it is also allegedly in Italy’s interest to support Ukraine in order to uphold the legal framework designed to protect countries’ national integrity.

– It is a choice that will not change… The only thing that must not happen is to think that the conflict can be resolved by abandoning Ukraine.

She described the idea that Ukraine was losing the war as “Russian propaganda” and that any future peace talks would be made possible by Western support for Kiev.

– In an invasion, you don’t have peace talks, you don’t need a negotiating table. Rather, the need for one arises in a stalemate … a stalemate that we have helped to create.

Speaking at a conference on Friday, Zelensky said Ukraine must continue to receive full support from its allies to be in the strongest possible position for any future negotiations, and that he had discussed peace plans and reconstruction strategies with Meloni.
