Donald Trump stands by his plans to take over Greenland from Denmark, reiterating that the US must control the world’s largest island in order to “protect the free world”.
– It would be a very unfriendly act if they didn’t allow that to happen, the President warns.
Donald Trump’s announcement that he intends to make Greenland American and will not rule out economic or military pressure to achieve this was initially seen by many as a joke – not least because Denmark is a close ally of the US through the NATO military pact.
However, the new president’s ambitions appear to be serious and at the weekend he reiterated his plans.
– I think we’re going to have it… I think the people want to be with us… I think Greenland we’ll get because it has to do with freedom of the world.
– I don’t really know what claim Denmark has to it, but it would be a very unfriendly act if they didn’t allow that to happen because it’s for the protection of the free world, he told the assembled journalists.
Former Swedish PM warns of “confrontation”
According to Trump, the giant island must become part of the US because only the Americans “can offer freedom” – something the Danes are allegedly not capable of.
Sources say there is now near panic in the Danish government and at EU level, and although it has been announced that the island is not for sale and that US attempts to conquer it are unacceptable, there seems to be no clear strategy on how to respond to Trump’s demands.
It’s not a joke. Trump is really out to extend the territory of the by getting . Short of the US Marines storming ashore in Nuuk needs to get ready for a serious confrontation. https://t.co/CHg7zWrezb

Carl Bildt (M), a high-profile globalist and former Swedish Prime Minister, is one of those taking the move very seriously, saying “it’s not a joke”.
“Trump is really looking to expand US territory by getting Greenland. Without it going as far as US marines storming ashore in Nuuk, Denmark and the EU need to get ready for a serious confrontation”, he writes on X.
