French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Western countries to stop all arms deliveries to Israel and instead “prioritise a political solution” in the Middle East conflict zone.
In an interview with French media last week, Mr Macron called on Western countries to stop sending arms to the fighting in Gaza, describing the ongoing conflict as a “mistake” and warning that Lebanon risked becoming a “new Gaza”.
– The priority is to return to a political solution and to stop sending weapons to fight in Gaza, Macron told France Inter radio.
He stressed in the interview that France does not supply arms and called on other countries to follow the same line.
Netanyahu: “Shame on you”
The announcement has not gone down well with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
– Israel is fighting on seven fronts against the enemies of civilization, Netanyahu said in a statement, referring to Israel’s conflicts with Hamas in Palestine, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, Iran and its allies in Syria and Iraq.
– All civilized countries should be standing firmly by Israel’s side. Yet, President Macron and other Western leaders are now calling for arms embargoes against Israel.

The Israeli leader went on to criticise Macron and other Western leaders for calling for an arms embargo on Israel, declaring that countries that criticise Israel should be “ashamed”.
He assured that Israel will 2win with or without their support “, adding that ”…their shame will continue long after the war is won”.
