Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson takes very seriously the fact that pro-Palestinian activists threw a bag of tomatoes and onions at Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) and accused her of complicity in genocide.
Now Ulf Kristersson wants to increase security and it is reported that the Parliament may put up plexiglass panels around the auditorium.
During an interpellation debate on Sweden’s abstention from the UN vote on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, activists threw vegetables and chanted slogans at Malmer Stenergard, causing the foreign minister to run out of the room and the debate to be suspended.
Even though vegetables were thrown and the Foreign Minister was not hit, Ulf Kristersson now promises to tighten security already next week.
– The government has made it extremely clear to the Parliament that it is completely unacceptable that the security of ministers cannot be guaranteed inside the chamber. We expect something to be done about this, he tells TT.
He further states that it is up to the Parliament to organize security and that he “expects strong action”, adding that many have taken the situation “very seriously”.
It is not entirely clear what security measures will be introduced, but according to media reports, it may include the installation of plexiglass panels around the auditorium.
