Dutch political commentator Eva Vlaardingerbroek sharply criticizes the European Commission’s new €800 billion aid package to Ukraine. She says the decision, which von der Leyen calls “Rearm Europe”, is a dangerous escalation that directly contradicts the US call for a ceasefire and risks dragging Europe into a third world war.
According to Vlaardingerbroek, after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky faced opposition from Donald Trump and JD Vance in the US, the EU leadership have decided to “do the exact opposite of anything that Trump is proposing”. She claims that the EU elite prioritizes its own power over the will of the people.
– The people who rule us from Brussels have officially lost their minds. Ursula von der Leyen has has announced a new plan called Rearm Europe. And she now intends to send 800 billion euros to Ukraine, she says.
Vlaardingerbroek points to Germany, where she says Friedrich Merz is urgently trying to abolish the so-called “debt brake” in order to increase aid to Kiev.
– They’re trying to push a law through very quickly before AfD takes their seats in parliament – to get rid of the German ‘debt brake’ – in order to send more money to Ukraine, which otherwise would be illegal, she accuses.
She warns that the EU’s actions will not only cost Ukrainian and Russian lives, but also escalate the conflict.
– Soon, we’re going to send actual troops to the front. We’re going to send our men, our kids to die for Ukraine. Because the people who rule us don’t give a flying about us, she exclaimed in an appearance on X.

Finally, Vlaardingerbroek denounces von der Leyen as an “unelected bureaucrat” and calls EU leaders “dangerous fools”.
– They’re willing to risk World War III for their money laundering power grab. While America is off to a great start, we’re going down the deep end here, she concludes.
