Javier Milei received the most votes in the primaries and could become Argentina’s next president. The outspoken libertarian is an avid bitcoin advocate and wants to abolish the central bank. He sees the political elite as parasites and thieves who are unable or uninterested in solving Argentina’s problems.
– Politicians are not the solution but the problem, Milei declared after receiving over 30% of the vote.
Milei, who promised to “put an end to the parasitic, thieving and useless political caste,” describes himself as a libertarian or anarcho-capitalist and differs in many ways from the typical politician.
He wants to abolish Argentina’s central bank, believes that climate alarmism and talk of man-made climate change are exaggerated, and that sex education in schools is a way to destroy the nuclear family.
Milei also wants to restrict abortion while making it easier for citizens to own guns. The libertarian is also a huge admirer of former US President Donald Trump, and has spoken positively about the cryptocurrency bitcoin on several occasions.
– The central bank is a scam. It is a mechanism by which politicians cheat the good people with the inflationary tax. What Bitcoin is representing is a return of money to its original creator: the private sector, he has said in the past.
While support for Miley is strong at home, he is portrayed in the Western media as a “right-wing extremist” who has managed to attract voters who are tired of the inability of the established parties to get the country out of the current economic crisis.
It should be noted that the candidates of the right-wing coalition received 28.3% of the vote, while the candidates of the current Peronist-led governing coalition received 27.2%.
The first round of the elections will be held on October 22 – if no candidate wins a majority, the two most popular candidates will go to a second round.
