The war in Ukraine

US funding to support Ukraine in its war against Russia will run out by the end of the year, the White House has warned, urging Congress to act to provide billions more.

“Without congressional action, by the end of the year we will run out of resources to procure more weapons and equipment for Ukraine and to provide equipment from U.S. military stocks”, White House budget director Shalanda Young said in an open letter to Republican and Democratic leaders.

“We are out of money – and nearly out of time”, she continues.

Republicans oppose president Joe Biden’s extensive support for Volodymyr Zelensky’s Ukraine. However, Biden believes that $106 billion in emergency funding is needed for operations in Ukraine, Israel, and Asia.

The Biden administration’s “warning” to Congress calls for it to approve tens of billions of dollars in additional military and economic aid to Kiev very soon – pointing out that Ukraine is in a very bad position on the battlefield if US support ends and the war could be lost.

111 billion dollars

However, several Republicans are reportedly willing to continue spending US taxpayer money on Ukraine – but only if Biden agrees to pursue a tougher migration and border policy between the US and Mexico to stop large-scale mass immigration. It should also be noted that the GOP-controlled House of Representatives passed a stand-alone aid package to Israel, which has invaded Gaza and vowed to destroy Hamas.

So far, Congress has approved at least $111 billion in various aid packages for Ukraine – including $67 billion for military procurement.

“We are out of money to support Ukraine in this fight. This isn’t a next year problem. The time to help a democratic Ukraine fight against Russian aggression is right now. It is time for Congress to act”, Young continued.

The Nordic Times has previously reported that several Western leaders have reportedly grown tired of funding the protracted war – partly because they feel no major progress is being made, but also because the support is taking a significant financial toll on their countries.
