US halts all arms deliveries to Ukraine

Donald Trump's USA

According to sources, Trump's perception is that Zelensky does not seem to want to pursue a sustainable peace.

US President Donald Trump has decided to suspend all military aid to Kiev until further notice, according to several White House sources.

According to the sources, arms deliveries will be stopped until Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is deemed willing to make an effort to achieve a lasting peace with Russia.

– The president has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution, a source explained to the Wall Street Journal

According to a senior Trump administration official, all of the president’s top security advisers agree that arms shipments to Ukraine must be paused after sitting in numerous meetings on the matter.

The sources point out that Trump is upset by Zelenskyi’s behavior during the meeting at the White House this week, where the Ukrainian leader expressed, among other things, that he did not believe that peace could be reached in the near future.

The US President even scolded Zelensky after the meeting, accusing him of being unwilling to make peace with Russia and of risking escalating the conflict into a major international war.

You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people, you’re gambling with World War IIIYou’re either going to make a deal, or we’re out, declared an outraged Donald Trump.

“Didn’t think we were serious”

– The Ukrainians didn’t think we were serious. We had to make a demonstration, continues the US government source.

He says that it is ultimately up to Trump to decide whether Ukraine is serious about starting peace talks or not. It is also unclear whether it will be enough for Zelensky to sign the agreements giving the US rights to rare Ukrainian mineral resources something the Trump administration has previously demanded in exchange for continued support.

The announcement means that all planned deliveries of military equipment will be suspended until further notice, including weapons and ammunition already in transit in Poland or ready to be shipped or flown to Ukraine.

Kristersson: “Serious information”

Although Russia welcomes the announcement, not everyone is happy. A large number of Democratic senators and a few Republican senators have criticized the decision, and harsh criticism has also come from the EU. Sweden’s Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, does not want to make a definite statement until the information has been confirmed, but tells the state broadcaster SVT that “if it is true, it is serious information”.

– It means that Ukraine is missing out on a number of things that are important to them. They are losing far from everything and it is not that everything is irreplaceable. But it is undoubtedly a setback.

– A peace forced on Ukraine with bad terms is an incredibly risky peace that only leaves room for Russia to come back once more. There are strong reasons for us in the rest of Europe to stick to our support and help Ukraine, he added.

“Keep a Cool Head”

Kristersson also refrains from commenting on the power shift in the U.S. and Trump’s stance on the war in Ukraine, instead reiterating his previous message about the importance of “keeping a cool head”.

The entire Western world cannot spend every day commenting on constantly new statements. What happens on the ground and in reality is what truly matters, he argues.

This week, the Prime Minister will travel to Brussels for an emergency summit where discussions will include a joint European military buildup and the potential framework for a European peace plan for Ukraine.

Trump withdraws Hunter Biden’s Secret Service protection

The fact that 18 agents worked to protect Hunter Biden is described as “ridiculous” by Trump.

Donald Trump has ordered the Secret Service to immediately end taxpayer-funded protection for former President Joe Biden’s scandal-plagued son Hunter and his sister.

Under federal law, former presidents and their spouses are entitled to lifetime protection by the Secret Service – but this privilege does not automatically extend to their adult children.

In a post on his own Truth Social platform, Trump writes that 18 agents have been assigned to watch 55-year-old Hunter and that another 13 have been assigned to protect his 43-year-old sister Ashley Biden.

The President describes the whole thing as “ridiculous” and notes that the bodyguard protection is now withdrawn “effective immediately”. He is also highly critical of the fact that Hunter Biden went on vacation in South Africa with his bodyguard.

We are aware of the President’s decision to terminate protection for Hunter and Ashley Biden. The Secret Service will comply and is actively working with the protective details and the White House to ensure compliance as soon as possible”, the agency wrote in a statement.

Pardoned his son – despite protests

It should also be noted that Hunter Biden was convicted just last year of tax evasion and of hiding his drug addiction when he filled out documents to buy a gun. Trump and Republicans also accused Biden of engaging in influence peddling and corruption on behalf of his father, a charge denied by both his son and his father.

Before he resigned, Joe Biden also issued a sweeping pardon for his son – despite earlier promises not to interfere in his legal problems. He justified this by claiming that the prosecution was politically motivated and that “Hunter was singled out only because he is my son”.

The outgoing president’s actions were condemned by Republicans and some Democrats and Trump has called it “an abuse and miscarriage of justice”.

The Nordic Times has highlighted Hunter Biden’s shady escapades in a number of articles, which can be read here.

French MEP wants to “take back” the Statue of Liberty

Raphael Glucksmann says Americans today “despise” the Statue of Liberty and what it stands for.

French-Jewish MEP Raphael Glucksmann wants France to “take back” the Statue of Liberty 140 years after it was donated to the US.

The reason is that, according to Glucksmann, Americans have “chosen to side with tyrants” and that the American people today allegedly “despise” the ideals that, according to the left-liberal politician, the statue represents.

On October 28, 1886, the Statue of Liberty was unveiled in New York Harbor, on the occasion of the centenary of the American Declaration of Independence. Designed by Frenchman Auguste Bartholdi, the statue was a gift from the French people to the Americans and has since become one of the world’s most famous tourist destinations.

However, Raphael Glucksmann, a member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament, is now calling for the statue to be returned to France citing his disapproval of the political path taken by the Trump administration.

We’re going to say to the Americans who have chosen to side with the tyrants, to the Americans who fired researchers for demanding scientific freedom: ‘Give us back the Statue of Liberty’, the politician proclaimed at a party congress.

The “tyrants” are presumed to refer to Russia and its leadership in Moscow, and Glucksmann, a long-time supporter of Ukraine, campaigned last year to further increase French aid to Kiev.

– We gave it to you as a gift, but apparently you despise it. So it will be just fine here at home, the MEP continued during the party event.

“Welcoming” laid-off American scientists

Furthermore, Glucksmann argues that the Americans who are losing their jobs due to the Trump administration’s public sector cuts are instead very welcome to live and work in France.

– If you want to fire your best researchers, if you want to fire all the people who, through their freedom and their sense of innovation, their taste for doubt and research, have made your country the world’s leading power, then we’re going to welcome them.

However, any “return” of the 46-meter statue is highly unlikely. On social media, many users see Glucksmann’s statement as another example of how difficult it is for many European politicians to deal with the political shift that Trump’s presidency has brought to the US and the world.

Some observers also point to the fact that France, Germany and other European countries have acted as an extension of the United States in foreign policy for decades, and now that US priorities have changed, they no longer have a clear plan on how to deal with the Americans.

Trump commends BlackRock’s deal to seize control of Panama Canal ports

Part of the Panama Canal.

Following earlier calls to “take back” the Panama Canal, US President Donald Trump is celebrating the signing of a multi-billion dollar deal by the world’s largest asset manager, US globalist and private equity giant BlackRock, to buy strategic ports on the Canal.

The deal, valued at around $22.8 billion, will see the BlackRock-led consortium reportedly acquire 90% of the Panama Ports Company, which operates the Balboa and Cristobal ports at both ends of the canal. The deal also includes CK Hutchison’s majority stake in 43 other ports in 23 countries.

Trump, who has long criticized Chinese interests in the canal, hailed the deal in his speech to Congress.

– My administration will be reclaiming the Panama Canal, and we’ve already started doing it. Just today, a large American company announced they are buying both ports around the Panama Canal.

Are Trump’s earlier statements bearing fruit?

The statement suggests that Trump’s previous threats to “take back” the canal may have been aimed at shifting control to US-based companies rather than direct government control.

The deal marks BlackRock’s largest infrastructure investment to date. The company’s CEO Larry Fink has described the ports as “world-class” and vital for global expansion. Panamanian authorities now plan to review all legal and financial documents surrounding the deal to ensure public interests are protected.

The transaction has caused CK Hutchison’s shares to rise by over 20% on the Hong Kong stock exchange, while BlackRock’s shares increased by 1% following the announcement.

– I would like to stress that the transaction is purely commercial in nature and wholly unrelated to recent political news reports concerning the Panama Ports, Frank Sixt, one of CK Hutchison’s managing directors, said in a statement.

New US steel tariffs in force – EU responds with countermeasures

On Wednesday, the Trump administration’s new steel tariffs entered into force. In response, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announces the imposition of tariffs amounting to €26 billion.

In February, Donald Trump announced the new tariffs on steel and aluminium, stressing that no exemptions would be granted. The 25% tariffs came into force on Wednesday morning and affect all countries, including former close US allies such as Australia, South Korea and the EU.

In retaliation, the EU is reimposing tariffs on US goods such as boats, motorcycles and bourbon. In total, the EU’s new tariffs are said to amount to €26 billion, although it is not clear over what time period this is calculated.

The measures are similar to those imposed in 2018 and 2020 in response to Trump’s steel tariffs during his first term, but this time they will be stronger. The EU announced the reintroduction of the tariffs on April 1, with further measures scheduled for April 13.

The counter measures we take today are strong but proportionate, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, according to Reuters.
