US President-elect confirms on social media that he will declare a national emergency and use the military to carry out his massive deportation program
After it became clear that Donald Trump had defeated Kamala Harris, Tom Fitton, president of the conservative organization Judicial Watch, wrote about Trump’s plans to use “military assets” to deport a very large number of illegal immigrants who entered the country under the Biden administration.
On his own platform, Truth Social, Trump recently shared the post and confirmed that this will happen, although the details of the mass deportation programs remain unclear.
There has been speculation in the past that military personnel, aircraft, and bases could be used to enable the deportation of one million or several illegal immigrants in a short period of time, with some analysts arguing that it is unlikely that the authorities responsible for border control and migration would be able to carry out such a large-scale project on their own, even with the help of the police.
Deported 1.5 million
While Trump’s first campaign focused on building a border wall with Mexico, in the run-up to the recent election he has instead talked a lot about interior enforcement and deporting millions of illegal immigrants who have already entered the United States – and voters now expect these promises to be fulfilled.
Overall, most expect the Trump administration to pursue a very harsh immigration policy by US standards, including keeping migrants in Mexico while their residency applications are processed and deporting migrants who have been granted asylum on humanitarian grounds by Biden.
The federal government is also expected to use county jails and detention centers across the United States to house all illegal immigrants who will be detained and guarded there pending deportation.
During his first term, Trump deported more than 1.5 million migrants – and this time expectations are higher – he has promised to deport between 10 and 20 million illegal immigrants. Notably, however, the US under President Barrack Obama (D) actually carried out more deportations than in the first Trump era, with 2.9 million deportations in Obama’s first term and 1.9 million in his second.
