Donald Trump has promised to deport between 10 and 20 million illegal immigrants.

US President-elect confirms on social media that he will declare a national emergency and use the military to carry out his massive deportation program

After it became clear that Donald Trump had defeated Kamala Harris, Tom Fitton, president of the conservative organization Judicial Watch, wrote about Trump’s plans to use “military assets” to deport a very large number of illegal immigrants who entered the country under the Biden administration.

On his own platform, Truth Social, Trump recently shared the post and confirmed that this will happen, although the details of the mass deportation programs remain unclear.

There has been speculation in the past that military personnel, aircraft, and bases could be used to enable the deportation of one million or several illegal immigrants in a short period of time, with some analysts arguing that it is unlikely that the authorities responsible for border control and migration would be able to carry out such a large-scale project on their own, even with the help of the police.

Deported 1.5 million

While Trump’s first campaign focused on building a border wall with Mexico, in the run-up to the recent election he has instead talked a lot about interior enforcement and deporting millions of illegal immigrants who have already entered the United States – and voters now expect these promises to be fulfilled.

Overall, most expect the Trump administration to pursue a very harsh immigration policy by US standards, including keeping migrants in Mexico while their residency applications are processed and deporting migrants who have been granted asylum on humanitarian grounds by Biden.

The federal government is also expected to use county jails and detention centers across the United States to house all illegal immigrants who will be detained and guarded there pending deportation.

During his first term, Trump deported more than 1.5 million migrants – and this time expectations are higher – he has promised to deport between 10 and 20 million illegal immigrants. Notably, however, the US under President Barrack Obama (D) actually carried out more deportations than in the first Trump era, with 2.9 million deportations in Obama’s first term and 1.9 million in his second.

Trump commends BlackRock’s deal to seize control of Panama Canal ports

Part of the Panama Canal.

Following earlier calls to “take back” the Panama Canal, US President Donald Trump is celebrating the signing of a multi-billion dollar deal by the world’s largest asset manager, US globalist and private equity giant BlackRock, to buy strategic ports on the Canal.

The deal, valued at around $22.8 billion, will see the BlackRock-led consortium reportedly acquire 90% of the Panama Ports Company, which operates the Balboa and Cristobal ports at both ends of the canal. The deal also includes CK Hutchison’s majority stake in 43 other ports in 23 countries.

Trump, who has long criticized Chinese interests in the canal, hailed the deal in his speech to Congress.

– My administration will be reclaiming the Panama Canal, and we’ve already started doing it. Just today, a large American company announced they are buying both ports around the Panama Canal.

Are Trump’s earlier statements bearing fruit?

The statement suggests that Trump’s previous threats to “take back” the canal may have been aimed at shifting control to US-based companies rather than direct government control.

The deal marks BlackRock’s largest infrastructure investment to date. The company’s CEO Larry Fink has described the ports as “world-class” and vital for global expansion. Panamanian authorities now plan to review all legal and financial documents surrounding the deal to ensure public interests are protected.

The transaction has caused CK Hutchison’s shares to rise by over 20% on the Hong Kong stock exchange, while BlackRock’s shares increased by 1% following the announcement.

– I would like to stress that the transaction is purely commercial in nature and wholly unrelated to recent political news reports concerning the Panama Ports, Frank Sixt, one of CK Hutchison’s managing directors, said in a statement.

New US steel tariffs in force – EU responds with countermeasures

On Wednesday, the Trump administration’s new steel tariffs entered into force. In response, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announces the imposition of tariffs amounting to €26 billion.

In February, Donald Trump announced the new tariffs on steel and aluminium, stressing that no exemptions would be granted. The 25% tariffs came into force on Wednesday morning and affect all countries, including former close US allies such as Australia, South Korea and the EU.

In retaliation, the EU is reimposing tariffs on US goods such as boats, motorcycles and bourbon. In total, the EU’s new tariffs are said to amount to €26 billion, although it is not clear over what time period this is calculated.

The measures are similar to those imposed in 2018 and 2020 in response to Trump’s steel tariffs during his first term, but this time they will be stronger. The EU announced the reintroduction of the tariffs on April 1, with further measures scheduled for April 13.

The counter measures we take today are strong but proportionate, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, according to Reuters.

Reports: US army to halt planning of military exercises in Europe

Future military exercises in Europe may be organized without US participation - or with very limited participation.

The Bonnier newspaper Expressen reports that the US Army will no longer participate in the planning of military exercises in Europe.

The Trump administration has previously announced that it wants to reduce the US military presence on the continent and exercises in Sweden are also expected to be affected by the decision.

The newspaper refers to several sources it has spoken to, but admits that information is currently “scarce”.

The sources explain that exercises with the US military in Europe will be carried out as usual in 2025 but that later exercises that are currently on the “drawing board” may be organized without US soldiers or with very limited US participation.

The background is said to be that the Trump administration wants to sharply cut back on defense spending in Europe and instead increase military spending in the Indo-Pacific region, where relations with China are becoming increasingly frosty.

US participation in European military exercises has been very common in the past including for Sweden long before joining NATO. Last year, Swedish soldiers participated alongside US units in a number of exercises, including in Norway, Motala, the Stockholm archipelago, Gothenburg and Gotland.

The Swedish Armed Forces do not want to comment

– If this is true, it is in line with what has been reported that the Pentagon will not spend more money on European command, African command and Central command, i.e. Europe, Africa and the Middle East, says the strongly pro-Ukrainian Lieutenant Colonel Joakim Paasikivi, who is almost always the one who gets to comment on military events in the Swedish establishment media.

This naturally reduces the chances of having joint operations with the Americans, he adds.

The Swedish Armed Forces do not want to comment on the information and claim that they have “good cooperation” with the US, which is an “important military partner”.

Allied Command Operations continues to plan and conduct exercises with all 32 NATO allies to increase our collective readiness to deter potential threats to the Euro-Atlantic region and defend its one billion inhabitants. These exercises include US forces, but also see more and more European forces training solely with other European forces, as during last month’s Steadfast Dart”, a spokesperson for NATO military headquarters Shape writes to the newspaper.

US representatives leave the UN climate fund

Meanwhile, it has been announced that the two US board members of the UN climate fund are stepping down immediately and will not be replaced by other representatives.

The Trump administration has already withdrawn the equivalent of $40 billion of US funding to the fund, which is tasked with providing financial support to developing countries allegedly particularly affected by climate change and natural disasters.

Earlier in January, Donald Trump also announced that the US was withdrawing from the much-criticized UN climate agreement (the Paris Agreement), in which signatories pledged, among other things, to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and keep “global warming” below two degrees.

Trump tried to leave the Paris Agreement back in 2017 but his successor Joe Biden prevented this.

Concerns over Bilderberg executive’s influence on Trump

Tech billionaire Peter Thiel funded JD Vance's campaign and is often described as his mentor.

Tech mogul and multi-billionaire Peter Thiel wields significant influence over US President Donald Trump’s administration, according to a new Bloomberg review.

At least 15 representatives in the new US administration have clear ties to the Palantir founder, who, unlike adviser Elon Musk, prefers to keep a low profile in the background.

To the public, Thiel is perhaps best known as the co-founder of Paypal and the technology company Palantir Technologies. Palantir’s technology has been used by the US intelligence community to analyze data from surveillance tools, in the Ukraine war to help Ukrainian drones identify Russian soldiers, and to develop technology to automate the killing of human targets, with the AI making the final decision on who lives and who dies.

Peter Thiel has also been a very generous financier of the Republican Party and has funded several of the party’s presidential candidates’ election campaigns over the years – not least Trump’s. He also sits on the steering committee of the shadowy Bilderberg Group power network and is listed as one of the World Economic Forum’s “Young Global Leaders”.

The tech mogul himself has claimed that he is not as politically engaged today and that he would go “crazy” if he went around thinking about politics all the time. Nevertheless, the Trump administration is full of his friends, former partners and employees, and the multi-billionaire is seen as having great power to shape White House policy.

The vice president’s mentor

Trump’s “crypto tsar” David Sacks and Vice President J.D. Vance are two of the people who have a very close relationship with Thiel and the tech mogul is described as Vance’s mentor ever since he worked at Thiel’s venture capital firm Mithril Capitals. Later, the Paypal founder came to finance Vance’s election campaign and it is also said to have been Thiel who brought Vance and Trump together.

Although Thiel has no official position in the Trump administration, his voice is considered very important and Quinn Slobodian, a professor of international history at Boston University, believes that the influence of the tech establishment on the US government under Trump is “unprecedented in the modern era”.

According to the historian, representatives of big business have previously focused on making as much money as possible from government contracts – whereas now they are working to radically change the way government works and how the US is run.

Hundreds of government agencies could be shut down

Trump’s chief efficiency officer Elon Musk also has long-standing ties to Thiel and is highlighted as a clear example of the tech billionaires’ influence and changing political role.

Musk, now the world’s richest man, heads the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), tasked with overseeing and streamlining the spending of a number of agencies within the US government – often through unprecedented budget cuts.

The work is still in its early stages, but there has been talk of saving 2 trillion annually and laying off a majority of US government employees. Musk himself believes that more than 75 percent of the US authorities should be completely closed down or merged with others.
