Yesterday, Swedish Cabinet Secretary Jan Knutsson and US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell signed a joint statement on cooperation between the two countries in the development of 6G technology.
– Together we are advancing technology development. I look forward to further strengthening the Swedish-US partnership in 6G, Knutsson said.
In a press release, the Swedish government states that “there is a common will to intensify cooperation between the countries to ensure that 6G technology is open, secure and developed in accordance with democratic values”.
It emphasizes that the development of 6G technology is “still in its infancy” but that it is expected to progress rapidly and that the technology is expected to bring faster speeds, higher capacity, reduced latency and better data processing.
“Sweden is at the forefront of the development and application of wireless technology, and the US is an important and strategic partner in this area”, it adds.
“Democratic values”
– With this joint statement, Sweden and the United States show a clear willingness to strengthen cooperation between like-minded international partners to ensure that 6G technology is open, secure, trustworthy, inclusive, sustainable, and consistent with democratic values. Together, we are driving technology development forward. I look forward to further strengthening the Swedish-US partnership on 6G, said Jan Knutsson.
Earlier this year, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States endorsed a joint statement stating that “future 6G technology must be open, secure, sustainable, trusted and accessible” and that “international cooperation is essential to ensure that these goals are achieved”.
