One of Vladimir Putin’s official limousines caught fire and exploded on a Moscow street on Saturday. The incident occurred near the FSB security service headquarters, but no one was injured.
An Aurus Senate limousine, which belongs to Vladimir Putin’s official fleet of cars, exploded and caught fire on Sretenka Street in Moscow. The car, valued at £275,000, had the fire started in the engine, which then spread to the interior. According to reports, the car was owned by Putin’s Presidential Property Management Department, reports The Sun.
Workers from nearby restaurants and bars on Sretenka Street rushed to the scene to assist before the emergency services arrived. Onlookers witnessed black smoke billowing from the front of the car as the fire continued to rage. Footage from the scene shows that the rear of the car also appeared to be damaged.
Unclear cause
No report has yet clarified what caused the sudden fire. Those in the car at the time of the incident were reported to be unharmed. It is unknown who was using the car at the time.
The incident occurred against the background that Mr. Putin has previously shown signs of increased concern for his personal safety.
Recently, footage showed members of a ceremonial guard in Murmansk being individually searched by an officer from the Federal Protection Service (FSO) while waiting for Putin to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Reports indicate that magazines were removed from their weapons and plugs were put in the chambers.
A Russian source states: “The Kremlin takes Vladimir Putin’s security very seriously. He is protected by a whole army of visible and invisible guards.”
