After one of the deadliest attacks of the ongoing conflict, mourners in Gaza are forced to collect the remains of their loved ones in plastic bags. The Israeli bombing of the Al-Tabi’in school in eastern Gaza City has shocked much of the world.

In one of the deadliest attacks of the war, Israel bombed the Al-Tabi’in school in Gaza City on Saturday, where thousands of Palestinians had taken shelter. Gaza officials say more than 100 Palestinians were killed in the attack, most of them while praying in a mosque inside the school.

Many of the dead were reportedly mutilated or mangled beyond recognition. Medics and relatives are reportedly being forced to collect body parts, including the heads of dead children, in plastic bags.

CNN has confirmed that at least one US GBU-39 bomb was used in the attack, resulting in “over 100 pieces of people” according to Palestinian journalist Shrouq Aila in Gaza.

– I’m saying ‘pieces’ because nobody was able to recognize the full body of their beloved ones.

Witnesses say the attack took place as people gathered in the school’s courtyard for morning prayers, and that a lack of water made it impossible to put out the fires.

British aid groups condemn the attack

Schools in Gaza have become increasingly vulnerable targets during the ongoing conflict, according to local officials. The Al-Tabi’in school is one of several reported to have been hit by Israeli bombs in the last week alone.

In addition to those killed in the attack, many more have been injured, and medics on the ground are working under extremely difficult conditions to help those affected.

The incident has drawn international attention and condemnation. British aid organizations such as Action for Humanity and Medical Aid for Palestinians have expressed deep concern about developments in Gaza and called on the British government to reconsider its arms exports to Israel.

They stress the urgent need for immediate action to protect civilians and prevent further humanitarian catastrophe in the bloody conflict, now in its 10th month.
