Iran has launched long-range missiles at Israel, causing bomb alarms to sound in large parts of the country, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. According to Israeli media and Reuters, nearly 200 missiles have been fired, and Iranian media have shown footage of the missiles over Tehran.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards confirmed the attack as revenge for the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut last week. They also warn of further attacks if Israel retaliates, while Israel promises that Iran will pay a “heavy price”.

Iran’s UN envoy said in a statement that the shelling was a “legal, rational and legitimate” action against Israel.
US media suggested that the attack could be “equal or greater” to the previous Iranian attack on Israel. The US has expressed support for Israel and the defense ministers of both countries spoke before the attack began.
