Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz declares UN Secretary-General António Guterres persona non grata and bans him from entering the country, Reuters reports The reason is said to be that Guterres did not sufficiently condemn Iran’s missile attack on Tuesday, according to Israel.
Shortly after Iran’s attack on Tuesday, Guterres called for an end to escalation and a ceasefire in the Middle East.
“I condemn the broadening of the Middle East conflict, with escalation after escalation. This must stop. We absolutely need a ceasefire”, Guterres wrote.
The statement did not go down well with the Israeli government, which said it would expel the UN chief from Israel.
– Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran’s heinous attack on Israel, as nearly all the countries of the world have done, does not deserve to set foot on Israeli soil. This is an anti-Israel Secretary-General who lends support to terrorists, rapists, and murderers, said Foreign Minister Katz, according to AFP.
