Many voters have the impression that the center-right coalition, also known as Tidö, led by the Moderates, will implement a “paradigm shift” in migration policy with an increased focus on reduced immigration, deportations and stricter requirements for citizenship.
At the same time, Migration Minister Johan Forssell (M) is clear that Sweden “will forever be a multicultural society” and that “this is a fact that no one can change“.
The Nordic Times has previously pointed out that mass immigration has continued even under Ulf Kristersson’s rule and that Sweden continues to receive around 100,000 migrants annually – despite all the promises to radically change migration policy.
For years, critics have noted that the harsh rhetoric seems to be mostly a show, that most of the proposals get “stuck” in investigations and never materialize, and that there seems to be no will at all to bring about real change.
In an interview with the tabloid Aftonbladet, Johan Forssell also confirms that the Moderates are, as before, “a party that is open to the outside world” and that they are actively working to attract more migrants to Sweden – but then labor migrants rather than asylum seekers.
“The view on gender equality is crucial”
He also emphasizes that Sweden is and must remain “multicultural” and that the Moderates have no intention of changing this. Instead, the problem is that many of those who come to Sweden are not integrated properly and too few demands are made on them, according to the minister.
– Sweden will be a multicultural society, because it is today. We have such large groups from different parts of the world. But we must be much clearer that when people come to Sweden, Swedish laws and values and the Swedish language apply.
– We have hundreds of thousands of people from many different parts of the world and cultures. It’s not a problem when you manage to come together under some important Swedish values. For example, that you should go to work, you should be decent, our view of gender equality, which is absolutely crucial, and our view of individual freedom, Forssell continues.

Translation: What IS culture according to you, if not values, language, attitudes, work culture, laws and norms? What do you really mean? Sweden is Sweden because of its unique Swedish culture. We need to protect, strengthen, preserve and revitalize Swedish culture, nothing else.
Open borders
Critics of the Tidös collaboration have long pointed out that it was the Moderate Party, together with the Green Party, that was instrumental in pushing through an almost borderless and highly destructive Swedish mass immigration policy under former Moderate Party leader Fredrik Reinfeldt – and that Ulf Kristersson himself had advocated open borders and completely free immigration earlier in his political career.
Today, however, he claims that this was an “idealistic view” and that “it doesn’t work in a country like Sweden with the Swedish welfare model”.
– I abandoned that view many, many years ago, he said in an interview in 2018.
