A tragedy unfolded Wednesday night when a father was murdered in front of his 12-year-old son on their way to the local swimming pool.

According to several witnesses, the father had intervened with an aggressive gang of immigrants in a pedestrian tunnel in Skärholmen, south of Stockholm, and was shot dead.

Police were called to the scene at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, where the 39-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was accompanied by his son, who had called 112, the Swedish emergency telephone number. The initial theory was that the incident could have been a “misfire” as the man had no criminal record.

Now new details of the incident have emerged; the man had confronted a group of people in the pedestrian tunnel, according to several sources to the tabloid Aftonbladet.

The argument escalated into a fatal shooting in which the man was shot in the head in front of his 12-year-old son. Several suspects left the scene on fatbikes, a type of electric scooter.

“Our country and society have bigger problems than the need to determine one’s legal gender”, writes economist and conservative commentator Thomas Gür on X.

“Working at full speed”

Police would not comment on the information at this time, citing the sensitivity of the investigation.

– We are working at full speed on this murder investigation and if you give too many details at this stage, you risk ruining the preliminary investigation, says Carina Skagerlind, police press officer in the Stockholm region.

No one has been arrested and police are continuing their investigation. Similar violence, including murders and shootings, has recently occurred in the same area, raising concerns among residents.

“The violence has been horrible for a long time. What happened yesterday in a pedestrian tunnel in Skärholmen, in front of the 12-year-old son of the murdered man, makes me sick to my stomach”, journalist Staffan Dopping writes on X.
