Swedish prime minister Ulf Kristersson, along with other Nordic leaders, pledged to continue providing aid and assistance to Ukraine “as long as it takes”. The Swedish prime minister also said that “Ukraine’s war is our war”.

On Wednesday, Ulf Kristersson attended a Nordic-Ukrainian summit in Oslo with Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyj, Finnish president Sauli Niinistö, Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen and Icelandic prime minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir.

– In Oslo, I had the opportunity to reiterate Sweden’s deep respect for President Zelenskiy and the Ukrainian people for their tireless defense against continued Russian aggression. The Nordic countries stand united with Ukraine and our support will continue as long as it is needed, Kristersson said in a press release.

The topic of the meeting was the war between Russia and Ukraine. The Nordic leaders pledged to continue sending arms, money and other support to the country, and Sweden also wants Ukraine to join the EU very soon.

– Sweden’s position is well known: we want the EU to start accession negotiations with Ukraine. Long-term financial support for Ukraine is the most important issue when we discuss the EU budget, the prime minister said.

“Unwavering” support

Sweden has so far donated various aid packages worth at least SEK 30 billion to the country, and recently decided on another “winter package” worth about SEK 1.4 million.

On X (formerly Twitter), the prime minister’s account claimed that “Ukraine’s fight is our fight” and that the Nordic region’s support for the country is “unwavering”.

Similar statements and promises have been made by other Nordic leaders, including Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

– It is an honor to welcome President Zelenskyj and my Nordic colleagues and friends here in Oslo. This meeting is a strong expression of the Nordic countries’ comprehensive and long-term support for Ukraine. We will support Ukraine in word and deed for as long as it takes, he said.
