A craft roaster in Helsinki has developed a coffee blend using AI. It is hoped that the experiment will eventually lead to reduced labor in the coffee industry.
Kaffa Roastery launched its new coffee blend AI-conic this week, a joint project between the roastery and local AI consultancy Elev. The blend was presented at the Helsinki Coffee Festival in April.
The roastery sent data on its best-selling coffee blends, which the AI company then used to create the blend. The roastery’s coffee experts were then tasked with testing the coffee. The blend is made up of four different beans from Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia and Guatemala. AI also created the packaging label for the coffee.
– Using models similar to ChatGPT and Copilot, the AI was tasked with creating a blend that would perfectly suit the tastes of coffee enthusiasts and push the boundaries of conventional flavor combinations, said Antti of the AI consultancy, according to AP.
Finland consumes about 12 kilograms of coffee per capita per year, making it the world’s top coffee drinker. Norway consumes about 9.9 kilograms, Denmark 8.7 kilograms and Sweden about 8.2 kilograms, according to Beans in Cup.
