A doctor in his 50s from Saudi Arabia has been arrested after driving into a crowd at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany. At least two people, including a child, have been killed and around 70 injured. The motive behind the attack is still unclear.
The arrested man, a psychiatrist, has been living in Germany since 2006 and holds a permanent residence permit. According to reports, he rented the SUV used in the attack. Authorities say there is no known evidence yet of links to Islamist networks, and they suspect he acted alone.

The fact that such atrocities keep happening without widespread outrage in Europe leads me to believe that Europe is lost, facing an inevitable decline into irrelevance and turmoil. pic.twitter.com/WHTmpiICsR

The attack, which occurred on Friday evening, claimed at least two lives – one adult and one child. Around 15 people are seriously injured, and in total around 70 are reported to have been affected. Witnesses describe how the car was driven at high speed through the market and described the situation as “war-like”.
Police are still working at the scene to secure the area. There are suspicions that an explosive device may be in the car, which has led to a large cordon. The driver has been arrested and is being investigated for intent, but his motive is still unknown.
