The Christian drama Jesus Revolution was a surprising financial success in US cinemas this spring, earning around 52 million dollars at the box office. Recently, the movie premiered on the Netflix streaming service – and its success continues.

In the first half of 2023, films and TV series produced by professionals of openly Christian faith have been very successful in the US. One example is the mega-hit Sound of Freedom, the movie that sheds light on child sex trafficking.

Another example is the drama Jesus Revolution, directed by Jon Erwin. The film highlights a real-life story of the great wave of spiritual exploration in the United States in the early 1970s, starting with a group of teenage hippies in Southern California.

The story follows hippie Lonnie Frisbee and his quest for peace, love and liberation. In the process, he starts a counterculture – the Jesus Movement – and, as it turns out, history.

The film is produced by Lionsgate Entertainment, an independent film company based in California that has historically been unafraid to invest in oddballs and generic action flicks.
Success

Jesus Revolution has become a success story for the company. Not only did the movie gross over $50 million at the box office in the US. Now it’s making another splash on the Netflix streaming service.

Don’t be so arrogant that you think God can’t work through your mistakes, is a quote that can be said to be a pervasive message in the movie and seems to have resonated with many audiences.
