Musk walks back Trump attacks: “Went too far”

Donald Trump's USA

The relationship between Musk and Trump is now said to be dead.

Elon Musk has now expressed regret over several of his posts about former US President Donald Trump, following a high-profile war of words on social media.

Among other things, the billionaire claimed that Trump’s name appears in classified documents linked to notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and that the US president should be impeached.

I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far”, Musk wrote on his platform X on Wednesday.

The conflict between the two escalated after the Tesla owner called Trump’s new tax bill a “disgusting abomination”. Musk also urged Americans to contact their political representatives in Washington to stop the bill, which he said would “cause a recession in the second half of the year”.

Trump responded with harsh criticism, claiming that his former advisor had “lost his mind”. He also threatened to withdraw government contracts worth an estimated $38 billion from Musk’s companies.

– I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the president, Trump said in an interview with NBC on Sunday.

Took credit for the election victory

The conflict stems from Trump’s controversial budget proposal, which includes extensive tax cuts and increased defense spending. The proposal was approved by the House of Representatives in May and is now being considered by the Senate.

Musk, who was previously one of Trump’s biggest financiers and donated the most to the 2024 presidential campaign, recently left his position at the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) after only 129 days.

During the public feud, Musk accused Trump, without presenting any evidence, of appearing in unpublished government documents linked to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein – a claim that the White House has dismissed.

After Trump made it clear in the interview that their relationship was over and that he was not interested in reconciliation, Musk began deleting several of his most high-profile posts. Among those deleted were a post in which Musk called for the president to be impeached, and another in which he claimed that he himself had won the election for Trump.

Trump vows to defend Israel against Iranian retaliation

The escalation in the Middle East

Trump has been described as the most pro-Israel president in modern times.

Donald Trump promises that the US will “defend itself and Israel” if Iran retaliates after Israel’s latest “preemptive” attacks on Iranian targets.

The statement was made in a phone call with Fox News host Bret Baier on Friday morning, according to the television network.

During the night, Israel’s defense forces (IDF) carried out attacks on a large number of targets in Iran, including residential areas, military installations, and the nuclear facility in Natanz. According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the purpose of the attack was to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Iranian media reports that at least five people were killed and 20 injured in Tehran.

Among the dead were Hossein Salami, a top general in Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard, army chief of staff Gholam Ali Rashid, and nuclear scientists Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi and Fereydoon Abbasi.

The attack occurred two days before planned nuclear talks between the US and Iran in Oman.

“Not involved militarily”

Trump said that he had spoken with Netanyahu several times in the days leading up to the attack and knew about the plans in advance. However, he emphasized that “the US was not involved militarily” and expressed hope for new talks in the future.

– Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb and we are hoping to get back to the negotiating table. We will see. There are several people in leadership that will not be coming back.

Iran’s army has warned that “a bitter lesson awaits Netanyahu”, and the country’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, said that Israel “should expect severe punishment”.

Trump added that the US Central Command (CENTCOM) is on high alert:

CENTCOM is on high alert, the US will defend itself and Israel if Iran retaliates”, according to Fox.

Deeply aligned with Israel

Prior to the attack, Trump wrote on Truth Social that the US “remain committed to a diplomatic resolution to the Iran nuclear issue”, but that the country’s leadership “first must completely give up hopes of obtaining a Nuclear Weapon”.

Trump has previously been described as the most pro-Israel president in modern American history and has repeatedly been praised by Benjamin Netanyahu as an indispensable ally. Many Republicans in the president’s staff and inner circle are also staunch supporters of Israel, often for religious reasons.

Furthermore, the US provides billions of dollars in military and economic aid to Israel every year. The Israel lobby, led by influential organizations such as AIPAC, plays a significant role in US domestic and foreign policy and has for decades influenced the US position on issues relating to the Middle East.

Kennedy fires entire vaccine committee

US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has dismissed all 17 members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which advises the federal government on vaccine safety and efficacy.

The former members, all appointed by the Biden administration, will be replaced by new ones.

The ACIP consists of members with medical and public health backgrounds and is tasked with providing guidance to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on how vaccines should be recommended and used among the civilian population.

Kennedy announced on June 9 that the purpose of the measure is to restore public confidence in vaccine science.

– Today we are prioritizing the restoration of public trust above any specific pro- or anti-vaccine agenda, he said, adding:

– The public must know that unbiased science—evaluated through a transparent process and insulated from conflicts of interest – guides the recommendations of our health agencies.

According to information from the former Department of Health and Human Services under the Trump administration, the Biden administration’s appointments meant that the new government would not have been able to appoint a majority of the committee until 2028. Of the 17 members, 13 would have taken office in 2024.

– A clean sweep is necessary to reestablish public confidence in vaccine science, he said, emphasizing that the new members “will prioritize public health and evidence-based medicine” and “no longer function as a rubber stamp for industry profit-taking agendas”.

Prominent vaccine critic

Kennedy has long been a vocal critic of what he describes as a corrupt alliance between the pharmaceutical industry and government agencies. He has promised to reform both the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, end mandatory vaccinations, and defend the individual’s right to informed medical decisions.

According to Kennedy, the public has been misled about the risks of vaccines, while pharmaceutical companies are protected from liability when harm occurs. He therefore demands full transparency in both trials and side effects, and wants to break what he sees as the industry’s deep control over research.

Although many see him as an important and powerful voice against the pharmaceutical industry, others are skeptical that his more far-reaching reforms will actually be implemented.

Violent riots in Los Angeles after deportation raids

The riots in Los Angeles are now in their third day.
4 minute read

Demonstrations against federal deportations of migrants in Los Angeles have escalated into widespread unrest over the past 24 hours.

President Donald Trump has ordered 2,000 National Guard troops to the city to assist police and protect federal buildings, a decision that has been sharply criticized by California Governor Gavin Newsom.

The protests in Los Angeles began last week after several federal raids against migrants without legal residence permits. The riots began on Saturday, when federal agents and demonstrators clashed in the suburb of Paramount.

On Sunday evening, the unrest culminated in violent riots, particularly in central Los Angeles, and according to police reports, protesters blocked Highway 101, set fire to cars and self-driving vehicles, and threw objects at the police.

The police responded with tear gas, rubber bullets, and stun grenades to disperse the demonstrators. At least 44 people have been arrested since the protests began. The number of arrests is likely to rise, given the situation.

The police have also declared several demonstrations illegal gatherings after the violence escalated.

National Guard on site – sharp criticism from state leadership

Early on Sunday, Donald Trump ordered 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to support local police and protect federal buildings, including the Metropolitan Detention Center.

However, the decision was immediately met with criticism from California Governor Gavin Newsom, who called the move illegal and inflammatory, describing Trump’s actions as “the acts of a dictator, not a president”.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell also expressed concern about the developments and opened the door to reconsidering the police strategy: “Given the violence this evening, I believe we need to reevaluate”.

Trump has defended the decision to deploy the National Guard and called the protesters “violent, insurrectionist mobs”.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that “these criminals will be arrested and swiftly brought to justice”.

At the same time, the US Department of Defense has raised the alert level at nearby military bases and warned of further action if the violence continues.

Raids on migrants behind the unrest

The unrest stems from a series of federal raids on undocumented migrants in the Los Angeles area, during which more than 100 people have been detained over the past week, including a prominent union leader.

The background is the Trump administration’s new, tougher line on immigration policy, with promises of record deportations and daily raids on suspected migrants.

Critics say the raids have also affected people legally residing in the country, and legal proceedings have now been initiated against several of the operations.

Chaotic scenes in the city center

Reports from Los Angeles paint a picture of a chaotic and tense atmosphere. Protesters, many carrying Mexican flags, have gathered outside federal buildings and chanted slogans in support of those facing deportation.

Several witnesses describe how self-driving cars and car tires were set on fire and how bottles and other objects were thrown at police and National Guard soldiers.

International media report scenes of total chaos and lawlessness in central Los Angeles, where police have responded with tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds.

Many residents are expressing shock and concern over the sudden escalation of violence, and both locals and protest organizers are now calling for restraint to avoid further clashes.

The situation in Los Angeles remains tense, and authorities fear further unrest in the coming days. The National Guard and police are now focusing on protecting federal buildings and maintaining order in the city center.

At the same time, the debate over Trump’s response and federal immigration policy continues at both the local and national levels.

Dispute between Musk and Trump escalates – SpaceX contracts at risk

Things escalated quickly between Musk and Trump after the budget dispute.
2 minute read

A public feud has erupted between tech billionaire Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump. What began with Musk’s criticism of Trump’s budget proposal has escalated into serious allegations of Trump’s involvement in the Epstein investigation and threats to terminate government contracts with Musk’s companies.

The conflict began when Musk publicly criticized Trump’s budget proposal, calling it a “disgusting abomination” full of unnecessary waste.

I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination”, he wrote on X on Tuesday.

The criticism marked a departure from the previously close relationship between the two, in which Musk has served as an advisor to the White House and led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), among other things.

Trump responded during a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and expressed disappointment with Musk.

– I’m very disappointed in Elon. I’ve helped Elon a lot, and I’ll be honest, I think he misses the place, Trump said. He continued on his platform Truth Social:

Elon was ‘wearing thin’, I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!

Musk escalates

Musk went on the counterattack by accusing Trump of being part of the Epstein investigation. In a post on X, he wrote:

Time to drop the really big bomb: Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public“.

The dispute has had concrete consequences. Tesla’s share price fell after the public dispute escalated, and there is now uncertainty surrounding SpaceX’s government contracts. Trump has threatened to terminate these and wrote on Truth Social:

The easiest way to save money in our budget – billions and billions of dollars, is to terminate Elon’s governmental subsidies and contracts”.

In response, Musk announced that SpaceX will phase out its Dragon spacecraft, which delivers supplies to the International Space Station (ISS).

Reports claim that the situation has led to crisis meetings in the White House, where both Musk’s and Trump’s teams are working to resolve the conflict. The background to Musk’s budget criticism is believed to be partly due to frustration over a lack of benefits from the Trump administration, according to some sources.

How this public dispute will affect the relationship between Musk and Trump, as well as their respective businesses, remains to be seen as the situation develops.
