Zelenskyj did not object to Graham's desire to profit from the country's natural resources.

During a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham cheerfully admitted that it is not for altruistic reasons that he wants to continue helping Ukraine militarily – but because he wants the US to be able to make money from Ukraine’s mineral resources, which are said to be worth trillions (thousands of billions) of dollars.

– I am here with President Zelensky. I am such an admirer of what you and your country have done. You’re trying to stop the Russians so we don’t have to fight them, Graham said.

– They don’t want any American troops. They just need weapons to free their country of a terrible invasion, he continued.

According to the South Carolina senator, however, the United States should help Ukraine not for idealistic reasons, but for its own economic interests. He stresses that Ukraine has vast natural resources – resources that the Americans want to get their hands on.

– They are sitting on a trillion dollars’ worth of minerals that could be good to our economy, so I want to keep helping our friends in Ukraine, Graham declared.

“They could be the richest country in all of Europe”

Although Lindsey Graham admitted that they are helping Ukraine because they see a chance to make money from it in the long run, Zelenskyj had no objections and thanked the senator.

This is not the first time that Graham has said that he wants to get his hands on Ukraine’s natural resources. Back in June, he called Ukraine a “gold mine”, claiming that “they’re sitting on $10 to $12 trillion of critical minerals”.

– They could be the richest country in all of Europe. I don’t want to give that money and those assets to Putin to share with China, he said, declaring that the US “can’t afford” to lose the war in Ukraine.

– If we help Ukraine now, they can be the best business partner we could ever dream of. This $10 to $12 trillion in critical natural resources could be used by Ukraine and the West, not given to Putin and China.
