On several occasions, Joe Biden and his aides vowed that the outgoing Democratic president would absolutely not pardon his son Hunter, who has been convicted of gun crimes, admitted to tax evasion and been involved in high-profile sex and corruption scandals.
Now, however, it turns out that the promises were just lies and all of a sudden the aging Joe Biden instead claims that Hunter is a political prisoner who was only prosecuted as a way to hurt himself politically.
“No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong. There has been an effort to break Hunter – who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to break Hunter, they’ve tried to break me – and there’s no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough”, the President declares.
He goes on to say that while he “believes” in the American justice system, the case of his son is an exception to that principle and should be considered a “miscarriage of justice”.
“Once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision”, he further proclaims.
Unsurprisingly, the seemingly nepotistic decision has led to widespread anger and harsh criticism from various political camps, with Donald Trump calling the pardon a judicial scandal.

“Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!”, he writes on Truth Social, referring to those sentenced to long terms after occupying the Capitol in 2021.
“Lied from start to finish”
“I am shocked that President Biden pardoned his son Hunter because he said so many times that he would not and I believed him. Shame on me”, writes Senator Chuck Grassley and Congressman James Comer notes that “Joe Biden has lied from start to finish”.
Others point out that Biden’s final acts as president clearly show how corrupt and deceitful power actually is and that politicians are ultimately most interested in benefiting themselves and their own.
Biden’s allies, however, defend the pardon on the grounds that the sentence was political to begin with. In theory, the president’s son risked 25 years in prison, but most analysts believe he would have gotten away with two to three years.
