Swedish liberal-candidate wants to send soldiers to Ukraine

Simona Mohamsson, the Liberal Party’s third candidate for the EU elections, believes that it may be necessary to send Swedish soldiers to the war in Ukraine.

– There must also be parties that are prepared to do everything. This means that the EU may also need to send ‘boots on the ground’, to go ‘all in”, she argues.

Mohamsson, who describes herself on social media as a “liberal asshole”, says it is unacceptable “to force Ukraine to the negotiating table”.

In an interview with Svenska Dagbladet, she declared that the party line she shares means that there is no “upper limit” for Swedish support to Ukraine, and that it may also be necessary to send ground troops – either within the framework of EU cooperation, or through a coalition of member states outside the EU framework.

– I understand that the Liberals have been clear that there is no upper limit, and this is included when they say that.

– Right now, this is not what Ukraine is asking for. But you can’t rule it out in the long run either… I’m not closing the door for us, together with like-minded countries, to do this anyway. The idea that the US will defend freedom and peace in the world is over, she says.

“Full-scale war”

According to Mohamsson, it is “time for us democracies to act like heroes” and she claims that Sweden is already at war with Russia.

– I perceive that we are already in a full-scale war. The war that is going on is a war against us, even if it is not on our soil, the L-top continued.

Reactions to the L-top’s statement are divided, with more neo-conservative and left-liberal profiles agreeing that it is high time Sweden joined the war “physically” – and not just supply weapons, money and ammunition.

Others are far less impressed, arguing that Mohamsson himself can put on a uniform and go to the front if it’s so important to “act like a hero” – instead of sending young Swedish men and women to their deaths.
