During a press conference on Tuesday, the government now suggests that the spread of covid is expected to increase again and wants everyone who falls within the Public Health Agency’s recommendations to take an additional round of covid vaccines. Pregnant women are also advised to receive a booster dose of both covid and influenza vaccine.
On Tuesday, the Swedish government launched a new vaccination campaign. Citing increased infection rates, they say the covid vaccine has been “updated” for the season, and is said to offer more “specific protection” against the currently dominant strain of the virus. According to health minister Jakob Forssmed, the government has a “common goal” with the regions to get as many people as possible to take the new shots.
– Vaccination remains the best protection against serious illness and death. At the same time, they limit the spread of infections and reduce the number of hospitalizations, says Forssmed.
Folkhälsomyndigheten, the Swedish national board of health, recommends that everyone aged 65 and over, pregnant women and people aged 18 and over who are in another risk group for serious illness should be vaccinated against both covid and influenza. In addition, the influenza vaccine is also recommended for “children 6 months of age and older who are in a risk group for severe illness due to influenza.
Persons aged 50-64 years and children who, after individual medical assessment, are considered to be at particularly high risk of severe illness from covid and who have not previously received a covid vaccine injection are also recommended to get the shots.
