Postnord wants to extend letter delivery times from two to five days. In the last quarter, the delivery giant failed to meet the two-day service requirement.

Today, Postnord has a so-called service requirement, which means that 95 percent of all letters must be delivered within two days. However, according to Annemarie Gardshol, CEO of Postnord, the company has not been able to meet this requirement.

– If we look at the quality in the fourth quarter, we do not meet the legal requirement, she told Bonnier-owned newspaper Sydsvenskan.

Gardshol believes that the service requirement should instead be lowered to 85 percent of letters delivered within three days, along with a requirement that 97 percent of letters should arrive within five days.

The financial statements for the fourth quarter of last year also show that the volume of letters and parcels in general decreased by 12 percent, which is believed to be due to increased digitization. However, operational development was positive for the first time since 2021, resulting in a development of 124 million. In addition, the number of employees decreased by 1,400 in the fourth quarter. In 2024, the number of employees will likely decrease further, but it is not known by how much, but Gardshol says there will be an “ongoing adjustment”.

– This is a continuous efficiency improvement process, she says.
