Bonnier News acquires the Ostrobothnian media group HSS Media. The deal includes three newspapers and a radio station.
The newspapers Vasabladet, Österbottens Tidning and Syd-Österbotten are now owned by Bonnier News. The deal also means that the group takes over 140 employees, the local radio station Radio Vaasa and the marketing agency Seger Marketing. Bonnier News has committed to publishing the newspapers for at least another ten years.
– By adding competence and power, for example by using Bonnier News’ common platforms, technology and product development, we hope to further strengthen HSS Media’s journalistic and commercial position, said Anders Eriksson, CEO of Bonnier News, in a press release.
Bonnier News already owns the Finnish newspapers Hufvudstadsbladet, Västra Nyland and Östnyland. HSS Media will be part of the Dagens Nyheter business area, where Peter Wolodarski is business area manager. However, Dagens Nyheter will not disclose how much it paid for the media group.
“Unfortunately, we are not publishing the purchase price”, Eriksson writes in a text message to trade magazine Journalisten (The Journalist).
The deal has to be approved by the Competition and Consumer Authority (Konkurrens- och konsumentverket).
